Why are you already campaigning? The next federal election is not until next year.
As a party politician you can rely on the party’s name recognition and you get a lot of advertising, funding and volunteers provided. A Community Independent doesn’t have that. To build up name recognition, to fundraise and to find volunteers takes a lot of time. That’s why we’re starting early.
Who is funding Claire’s campaign?
Claire’s funding comes from donations from the local community. Climate200, which has donated to Claire’s campaign, is a fundraising platform with over 12,000 donors across Australia, 30% of which live in a rural electorate like Casey. Climate200 supports Independent candidates that support action on climate change, integrity and respect.
Is Claire a teal? Does Claire belong to the Teal party?
The term “teal” has been coined by the media. There is no “Teal Party’. Claire is a Community Independent.
Many Community Independents have chosen teal as most major colours are used by parties.
What all Independents have in common is that they put their communities first. They listen and advocate for the issues that are important to their electorate. They champion integrity in politics, and action on climate change.
Aaron is really a nice man and does so much for the community.
As a party politician, Aaron represents the Liberal Party. Irrespective of his personal opinion, he has to toe the party line. Aaron votes 100% the same as Peter Dutton. Aaron’s priority is to keep the Liberal party happy. As a Community Independent, Claire is 100% accountable to our community, her priority is to represent the community.
Aaron has been good to us (eg. community group).
Every Federal MP in Parliament has an annual community fund they grant to community groups. If elected Claire will work hard, including allocating the community fund to local groups who need support.
What is Claire’s stand on ‘insert something you’re not sure about’
That is an excellent question. I don’t know the answer to this. Why don’t you come along to “insert next event” and ask her? You can also check out her policies online or reach out to her via her website.
Who will receive Claire’s preferences?
Claire asks us to give her your first vote. After this it is up to you to whomever you want to put second, third and so on, on our ballot paper. You must number every box.
I have voted Lib/Lab/Greens all my life and they are fantastic.
If you are happy with their policies that is great. Please give Claire your no. 2!
I usually vote Lib/Lab/Greens….
If you are happy with their policies that is great and you should vote for them. Claire is offering a credible alternative. Have you considered voting Independent? Casey is a marginal seat and this federal election it’s going to be very close and we think it will come down to 500 votes. If you vote the same - you get the same. The current Independent MPs have been impressive representatives for their electorate and we can elect an Independent in Casey.
A vote for an independent is a wasted vote.
The beauty of our Australian voting system is that no vote is ever wasted!
If your first choice on the ballot paper doesn’t get in, your vote goes to person you have put a “2” next to and so on. Your vote always counts.
A “hung parliament” is dangerous and destabilising.
Did you know that Germany has coalition parliaments all the time? A parliament of people working together as a coalition is also called a balanced parliament.
Julia Gillard led a minority government, and she was one of the most successful prime ministers in regards to getting legislation through.
What her and the community independents have in common is that they work collaboratively. It doesn’t matter who comes up with a good idea or a solution. Community Independents work with all MPs irrespective of which party they represent to achieve outcomes for their communities.
Teals are just glorified Greens/Labour – Teals vote with Greens/Labour a lot.
Community Independents represent their communities. While they might share views on some issues with parties, they pursue what is important for their communities. The Liberals love to say that “The Teals” vote with Greens/Labour all the time. This is misleading as this doesn’t show that often Greens or Labour support a motion/amendment etc raised by the Community Independents. So they follow the lead of the Community Independents. Not the other way round.
If there is a minority government after the next election, who would you support? Labor or Liberals?
Claire will support whomever is prepared to work on the issues that are important to the Casey community and aligns with our values.
Why should I vote for Claire?
Claire will be 100% accountable to the community. The issues she has heard are important to the Casey community are cost of living, housing, health & aged care, climate change and integrity in politics. Claire is a credible alternative, she knows how government works, and not works. She will listen, be pragmatic, be honest, work hard and report back on what she can and can’t achieve.
